WinS Guidelines for Grant Requests

In keeping with its mission to promote the athletic activity of girls and women in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area, WinS provides small grants to individuals, groups and organizations that promote sport-related activities for girls and women. Grants typically range from $250 to $500, although requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Higher awards are possible if it can be shown that matching funds are available from another funding source. Grants are typically used to support activities and programs. Requests can be submitted at any time, but an organization can only submit 2 requests in any fiscal year.

Requests for funding should be submitted on the attached application form. The request should include the purpose of the request, how the funds will be used, how many people would be affected by a grant and what geographical area will be served. Please note that grants for individuals are normally not funded except in special cases. It is the responsibility of the applicant to check any applicable rules and regulations that might impact the awarding of a cash grant (e.g., NCAA guidelines).

Requests will be evaluated on the basis of the following areas:

Projects with a clearly defined purpose
Projects to which a small grant can make an immediate and recognizable impact
Projects where small grants can make a long term difference to a small group or organization
Projects that affect area female athletes
Perceived need and absence of other reasonable funding possibilities

If there are any questions please contact Diane Whaley at dew6d@virginia.edu or call 924-6193 (day). Applications can be mailed to the address on the request form or sent as an e-mail attachment to the e-mail address above (preferred method is e-mail).
