WinSpark features articles about a rising female athlete (usually in middle school).
Taylor Jarrel
Taylor just completed her 2nd season of JV Field Hockey at Monticello High School with 10 shots, 5 assists and 7 stops as the fly on corner plays. Karen Hackett, Taylor’s coach, says that “she is the type of player who puts everything out on the field. Her passion for playing and encouraging her teammates is incredible. She has a bright future in Albemarle County and beyond in Field Hockey, Basketball and Track. As her coach, I am incredibly thankful for her strength and enthusiasm for the sport.”
Morgan Thacker
Morgan Thacker is an eighth grade student who is new to both St. Anne’s-Belfield and its varsity softball program this year. In addition to being a leader on the softball field, Morgan carries a 4.0 GPA and plays JV volleyball at St. Anne's. A natural shortstop, Morgan made the unselfish move to the catching position earlier this season to fill at team need. As the youngest starter on the Saints' roster, Morgan made her mark both offensively and defensively in her first varsity game as a catcher, contributing to a one-hit shutout defensively and stealing two bases offensively. Morgan’s dedication to her team and to the game of softball makes her a player to watch over the next five seasons. There isn’t a more talented, selfless and deserving female athlete than Morgan Thacker.
Lina Godine
Lina Godine is a ninth grader in her first year at the Covenant School. Throughout the winter offseason, Lina was the most consistent participant in winter conditioning in preparation for the spring sports season. In February 2008, Lina made the varsity girls soccer team at Covenant and will likely start for the Eagles because of her hard work and excellent attitude. Although Lina is one of the youngest players on the club, her unselfish attitude is an example to all her teammates, schoolmates and even her coaches.
